Faux i-cord edging + video tutorial

I have been crocheting for over 20 years and in that time I have learned so much. And I’m not just talking about different stitches, but of techniques that have become staples in my designs because they make things so much better!

Last week I shared with you guys my new favorite colorwork technique. It’s a variation of mosaic crochet in rounds and it really is amazing! I literally have 2 patterns that are about to be released, one in the works and two more in the back burner, which ALL use this technique. That’s how much I love it!

Well today I will share with you guys one more snippet of what I have learned over the last few years of experimenting with new ideas and stitches. It’s a faux i-cord edging.

An i-cord is used in knitting to make a “tube” that can be used as straps for garments, belts, rope or as an edging.

I’ve used it in my Hoi-An Top as an edging around neck and armholes; and also on other designers patterns, like the Beloved Bonnet by TinCanKnits (my favorite bonnet ever!).

I wanted to replicate this effect in crochet and I think I managed to get close to it! I don’t think I invented this, but I haven’t really seen anything like this before. If you have, please let me know so that I can learn even more!

I use this technique in my upcoming Teotihuacan Top pattern around the neck, sleeves and bottom and I think it looks brilliant. It definitely gives you a rest from that ribbed edge that we all know I love!

Anyway, here’s a little video tutorial so that you guys can integrate it in your makes! Or simply so that you are ready when the Teotihuacan Pattern drops on April 15th in collaboration with TheFibreCo! Enjoy and please let me know what you think!

This series of Special Techniques will continue. Is there something in particular that you would like to learn? Are the videos clear enough? Please share your feedback with me so that I can get better at sharing what I know. And don’t forget to subscribe to my YouTube channel so that you don’t miss out on any future videos.
